Background and biography: Born to a religious family in Sweden, Astrid followed in the footsteps of many relatives and became a leader of Norse faith.  A young and beautiful woman, Astrid was married at seventeen to another Godi, an older man.  After only two years, Astrid’s husband passed.  Ever the optomist, she rallied behind the idea that her late husband would not want her to mourn.  Instead, Astrid performed his funerary rites, then began a three year journey by foot and bicycle, around Scandinavia.  It was on a short return home to Uppsala that Astrid had a chance meeting with an American Godi that convinced her to follow him back to the States.
